Keegan’s short story Foster has just been published as a standalone book, and is on my TBR, doubtless I’ll be talking about it here soon enough. It’s a slim book (the shortest ever to be listed for the Booker Prize at just 114 pages) so you can read it in one sitting. This is the perfect book to read on one of those dark, solitary evenings in the liminal time between Christmas Eve and New Year’s day. If you haven’t read Small Things Like These yet, you have to. I’ve also just finished season 3 of Derry Girls (I cried.) It seemed only fitting to finish the year with an Irish novel, because I began 2022 with Claire Keegan’s Small Things Like These. I’ve got a stack of books to get through before the year’s end, but can probably only fit in one fable book club between now and New Year’s.
