Just as Lowen was waiting for the crosswalk to turn red, a man crossed the street and was hit by a truck. Now, she has left her apartment in New York City for the first time in weeks, summoned to a meeting at her publisher’s office by her literary agent, Corey, with whom she previously had an intimate relationship.
